Class 2 Teacher

Hello and welcome to the year 2 class page.
I am Miss Hookway, the class teacher. I have been teaching year 2 for the past 2 years but only joined St Joseph's in January 2025. I am really excited to meet you and learn alongside you all.
Please keep a regular check on our page and dojo for updates of what is happening in our class. If there are any questions or issues, please contact me through class dojo, and I will reply at my earliest convenience.
 Important Dates

Monday 5th May - School closed for bank holiday.

Wednesday 21st May - Dartmoor Zoo trip.

Friday 23rd May - End of Summer 1.
Physical Education

Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday. Please make sure that your child arrives in school wearing their school PE kit.  The children should also wear their usual school jumper or cardigan on these days. Sometimes, PE will take place outside and children will be able to wear hats and coats until they have warmed up for this fun, important and compulsory area of school life.
English/Writing

Throughout the course of Summer 1 our text will be Story Path by Kate Baker. We will be immersed in learning about how to write and create stories! These stories will be based on making decisions to choose who the story is about, where they are going and how the story is going to end.
Phonics
Maths
Throughout Summer 1 in Maths we will be looking at the topics of fractions and time.
Within fractions we will be focusing on identifying parts and wholes as well as finding and recognising a half, quarters and thirds.
We will then move onto time where the children will be using physical clocks to support their learning. We will be starting to recognise O'clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past as well as using our knowledge of counting in 5's to support us in telling the time in 5 minutes.

Homework

Spellings and Maths-

Maths and spelling homework will be set every Friday, and should be returned back to school throughout the week, before the following Thursday. The homework set will always be linked to our learning that we are doing in school. If your child is struggling with their home learning, please speak to me and I will support you/them in any way that I can. If all homework for the term is completed and handed in on time then at the end of the term your child will receive 10 dojos.

Reading -

In year 2, children are expected to be reading at home at least 4xs a week. This can be any reading material and then recorded by parents in their reading diaries.

If your child still follows the Read Write Inc phonics programme please ensure that you are engaging with this at home. Please make sure that the books are coming to school daily as we read throughout the day.
